SUMMARY:Zero Covid: An international movement
DESCRIPTION:An online meeting to exchange experiences and ideas with activists from different countries on how to push for Zero Covid\, and for health solidarity across borders.\nFeaturing speakers from Brazil\, Germany\, Ireland\, South Africa\, England and Scotland\n\nSaturday 24 April\, 13:00 – 17:00 (BST)\n13:00 – 14:30: Europe\nGovernments in Europe have put keeping the economy functioning ahead of people’s health and their lives. One year after the outbreak of the pandemic\, the UK has the highest death toll with 150\,000 dead\, a third wave of infection is gathering pace in France and Germany\, and activists in Ireland have been campaigning for an all-island strategy. We can’t allow diplomatic threats over vaccines in Europe to risk people’s lives. \nSpeakers: \n\nChristian Zeller\, ZeroCovid De/At/Ch\nProf. Aoife McLysaght\, ISAG/We can be Zero (Ireland)\nDr Jacky Davis\, Keep Our NHS Public\nMike Downham\, Zero Covid Scotland\n\n\n14:30 – 15:00: Break\n15:00 – 17:00: The global South\nBig pharma are patenting vaccines and competing for sales\, while governments are competing for doses. The UK government and those of other wealthy countries are holding back vaccines\, cutting aid budgets and keeping countries shackled with debt. It’s unjust\, and will prolong the pandemic. Campaigning against vaccine nationalism and for health solidarity across borders is urgent. \nSpeakers: \n\nNick Dearden\, Global Justice Now\nFatima Hassan\, Health Justice Initiative\, South Africa\nMarina Caixeta\, Coletiva Bem Viver (Living Well Collective)\, Florianópolis\, Brazil\n\n\nRegister: \nOur accessibility guide can be be found at . \n\nPlease join and share the Facebook event\n\n

SUMMARY:Campaign call - How can we bring Test & Trace into the public sector?
DESCRIPTION:At the end of May 2021 Serco’s contract to run Test and Trace is coming to an end. Up to now the massive £37 billion budget has been mishandled\, the majority so far being spent on testing. Very little has been spent on effective tracing and in providing fully funded support for isolation. Some Local Authority pilots are in place for an integrated national and local system\, but there is little transparency about the future role of the private sector. The Zero Covid Campaign is working with ‘We Own It’ to stop Serco and Deloitte regaining the contract and for the system to be put fully into the control of Local Authorities and the NHS. Not another penny to Serco! \nRegister here \n

SUMMARY:Campaign Call - perspectives on 'vaccine passports'
DESCRIPTION:The question of ‘vaccine passports’ has been in the news a lot and the UK Government is already trialling them for mass gatherings. \nWhile some people see them as a way to reduce risk\, others have argued that the current plans are divisive and discriminatory and Independent Sage says they are counterproductive. The focus on vaccine passports could also be used as another way to undermine the need to make workplaces and other spaces genuinely safe for everyone. \nOn Monday 12th April at 6pm the Zero Covid campaign will have an online call to talk through the issues raised by vaccine passports as well as to share any other campaign updates. \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:International Zero Covid Day of Action
DESCRIPTION:Dear friends\, colleagues\, activists\, political groups and other concerned citizens\,\n2\,75 million people have so far died from Covid-19. In many countries a third wave of the pandemic is rolling\, incidences are rising\, driven by more contagious and more dangerous mutations. At the same time\, vaccine rollout is going far too slowly to provide an effective counterforce. Yet governments still stick to failed anti-pandemic strategies. With some shortsighted lobbyists campaigning heavily against measures intended to reduce spread\, factories\, offices\, schools and stores are kept open at any cost. \nThe Zero Covid strategy offers a perspective for a way out of the pandemic. By bringing down case numbers as rapidly as possible in a joint effort based on solidarity and sustaining this success\, we could avoid thousands more deaths\, prevent many infections and subsequent suffering from Long Covid. \nWe\, the Zero Covid Movement\, call for an International Day of Action on April 10!\nOn this day\, we want to show our support for a strategy that will put a quick and lasting end to this pandemic and bring cases down to zero\, taking those countries and regions as our inspiration that have most successfully dealt with the pandemic. \nLet us stop the suffering and dying\, let us prevent prolonged illness\, as well as the economic hardships of prolonging the pandemic indefinitely. We need a change of strategy: to define green zones\, temporarily shut down non-essential businesses and close schools for a few weeks with full recompensation for the employees and support for all necessary care work\, bring transmissions to a level where each infection can be traced\, and every chain of transmission can be stopped. We need to regulate necessary travel in and out of green zones so as to keep cases down permanently. Let us not take the risk of ever new variants escaping immunities\, when the pandemic is not contained. Let us leave no one behind\, and evacuate mass accomodation and provide shelter and resources for those in need. Let us fight for scaling up vaccine production globally by sharing the production knowledge with the world community. Let us make vaccines and medical supplies available globally and end the pandemic everywhere. \nOn the Day Of Action\, Zero Covid groups from around the world will make their voices heard. We would like to invite you to participate in this day with your own group or organization. The actions can take place on- or offline. Some example include: \n– Small demonstrations in front of central political actors (e.g. federal or state ministries for health\, education\, labor\, social affairs)\n– Flash mobs\, demonstrations and other offline actions\n– Disseminating the posters\, online\, or on walls\, windows\, etc.\n– Online postings/mass mailings to specific state or federal politicians\, accompanied by #ZeroCovidDayOfAction\nSHOW YOUR SUPPORT: We have created a multilingual poster series to help you show your support for a change of strategy\, or to highlight a specific topic such as the importance of recognition of airborne transmission or the need for safer schools. You can download the posters here. Print them\, hang them in front of your window\, or disseminate them in your area! Don’t forget to show your support by sending us your photos: info@zerocovidalliance.org or use the hashtag #ZeroCovidDayOfAction when posting them on social media. \nOur Zero Covid Campaign will simultaneously host online demonstrations with international participants on that day\, and we offer and would love to give additional visibility to your local actions during this event\, as well as on all our social media and other channels. If you would like to speak during our online event\, live stream from your local event\, or send us photos\, videos\, and/or texts to be presented there\, please contact us. \nWe would love you to participate in the day. Please get in touch if you are planning an action\, and of course always welcome if you have any questions or suggestions! \nStay tuned for more info on the Zero Covid Day of Action. \nKind regards\, \nThe Zero Covid Movement \nZero Covid Alliance – info@zerocovidalliance.org\nZero Covid DACH – zerocovid@gmx.net\nContainment Nu – pers@containmentnu.nl

SUMMARY:National Day of Action on Saturday 5 December
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday 5 December we will be holding safe outdoor protests to send a message to Boris Johnson and the UK Government:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe best Xmas present would be a Zero Covid Strategy\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe don’t want to return to a failed three-tier system when an alternative exists to protect lives and livelihoods – Zero Covid\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou can sign up for the campaign in order to find out what’s happening in your area and to join in on social media in pushing our hashtag #ZeroCovid. It’s how we break the cycle of restrictions. Yet the Test and Trace system overseen by ex TalkTalk boss Dido Harding and outsourced in large part to private sector firms such as Serco has cost £22bn so far and is a total failure. \nWe call on the Government to replace the discredited private test and trace system with one based locally: on council\, NHS and public health structures\, recruiting contact tracers locally and introducing backwards tracing to find sources of infection. \nOur risk assessment has been accepted by Westminster Council and can be viewed here. We ask all participants to read it before attending. In particular: \n\nIf you have any symptoms please don’t attend and get a test.\nWe ask that a 2m physical distance is maintained.\nBring your own placards and don’t share them with others.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nManchester\n11am\, Piccadilly Gardens\, M1 1\nFacebook event \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNewcastle\n11am\, Monument\nFacebook event \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOnline rally\n11am\nFacebook event \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPreston\n12noon\, Flag Market\nFacebook event \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWellingborough\n11am\, Peter Bone MP’s office\, 42 Midland Road\, NN8 1LU
